Words of kindness are works of kindness, and since they cost so little and are worth so much, we should strew them plentifully all along life's way. ~Modern Proverbs

What will I find today?
Again, Tuesday is usually a very good day for treasure hunting at the Goodwill store. It seems to be one of two days that they put "new" items on the shelves. The other day is Thursday (sometimes).
Not that I will get to spend very much. I spent all of my money on a turquoise necklace. That was Sunday afternoon. My friend, Irene, wire-wraps stones and she was doing a show at the local mall. I fell in love with the absolutely huge piece of turquoise she had wrapped in silver. She marked the price down $25 for me, but I still spent nearly every dime I had in my purse! posted by deborah

While I am doing lists...
I should mention the new fall TV schedule. Around here it is probably going to look something like this:
Saturday: LA Dragnet Sunday: Cold Case, American Dreams, Alias, The Practice, Lyon's Den Monday: ? Tuesday: Navy NCIS, Whoopi, The Guardian, Judging Amy Wednesday: Enterprise, Jake 2.0, Karen Sisco, the Brotherhood of Poland N.H. Thursday: Threat Matrix, CSI, Without a Trace Friday: Joan of Arcadia, Miss Match, Jag, The Handler
Of course, the VCR is going to be an important part of this new TV schedule, and I am sure some of the new shows will fall by the wayside. Hey, I don't see Crossing Jordan on the new schedule. posted by deborah

Most Popular Johnny Cash Songs
According to an article at Wikipediea these are the most popular Cash songs:
"Hey Porter" "Cry, Cry, Cry" "Folsom Prison Blues" "I Walk the Line" "Don't Take Your Guns to Town" "Ring of Fire" "Orange Blossom Special" "Daddy Sang Bass" "A Boy Named Sue"
I would rearrange them a bit:
"I Walk the Line" "Don't Take Your Guns to Town" "Cry, Cry, Cry" "Ring of Fire" "Hey Porter" "A Boy Named Sue" "Folsum Prison Blues" "Daddy Sang Bass" "Orange Blossom Special"
Wedding::Elope, it's easier Roach::Don't have any Expense::But, Honey, jewelry is an essential! Fight::Make love not war Air::A silly song about love Protect::The children Glance::Eyes meeting across the room Boo::Halloween Steamy::Novel Caviar::Yuck, fish eggs.
Johnny Cash has passed away. It makes me sad because his music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. His wife June passed away in May, and we thought he would not last long without her. They were quite a dynamic couple.
1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed? I got married, so I go by a different last name.
2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be? If I had a pen name it would be "Chetta W. Landis": Chetta, after my husband's mother; W., after my Dad's first name; and Landis because it is just a nice sounding name and close to Chetta's maiden name.
3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) There is no specific story behind my name, my mom just like it. I'm glad she use the Biblical spelling.
4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why? No, there are no names I really hate.
5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it? Hmm, I'd say it was 75% accurate, especially the part about loving art and having a tendency to overeat, but not the part about sometimes being intolerant and critical of others (yea, right!). posted by deborah

In the Mail
It seems as though my second order from Amazon.com has been shipped first. Not that I am complaining about that, I am looking forward to using these books during my "treasure hunts":

This is only a partial order. The one I'm really looking forward will be shipped as soon as it becomes available

I think this image best represents broken dreams. Of course, those broken dreams don't always come about because of our actions or inactions. On this September 11, we must remember that 3,000 plus dreams were broken by the vicious, evil actions a few deranged men. posted by deborah

I ran across a little book called The Flower Fairies Birthday Book. It was a calendar book in which you kept track of birthdays. It was illustrated by art from Cicely Mary Barker, who was popular during the 1920s. The pictures were so delightful that I decided to order The Complete Book of Flower Faires, Flower Fairies Postcards, and a Flower Fairies Coloring book.
I think I'm looking forward to the coloring book, though I haven't done any coloring in years. I think I can still stay inside the lines.
I loved the Birthday book so much that I will probably start collecting the original books of Flower Fairies, if I ever run across them at yard sales and such. Good grief, another collection! I'm incurable!
Shopping at the Goodwill today was fairly productive. Some items found:
An illustrated Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms (not the original) in mint condition An illustrated Arabian Nights published in the 1940s in good condition A shaker style doll chair A pink ceramic lamp by Disney (not that one). A very nice brass candlestick made in India
I went to a house-warming party for my niece, Mandy, today. She is in her mid twenties and has moved into her first apartment. She is such a sweetheart. It was too bad that some of those invited couldn't come because of illness, but Bruce & Mom, John, Dina, Aunt Patty, and I all showed up. It was a bit of a potluck, too, so I made Dina's "Potluck Casserole" which consists of doctored-up Hamburger Helper.
After the party, I decided to go to Kluh Jewelers to buy a new ring. They are having a trade any old gold ring for a new gold ring at 1/2 price sale. I've had a hankering for a ruby ring. I found a very nice one for a modest price. It is set in white gold, so I can wear it with my sliver rings. It is being resized and I get to pick it up on Thursday.
Tomorrow it is off to the Goodwill for our Tuesday treasure hunting. Tuesday is usually a good day over there.
By the way, I looked for a website for Aunt Patty, but she doesn't apparently have one yet, unless she plays Woman's LaCrosse for JMU Sports. posted by deborah

What a Good Kid
So, we went to Walmart after church (don't tell me you never have). By the time I got to the checkout stand, it was pouring rain outside. My oldest foster son had already gone to the car. As I started putting my items on the counter I looked up and here he came with an umbrella for me. Is that sweet, or what? posted by deborah

Life's not fair! It's never been fair, but while adults might just accept that, I know something's gotta change. And it's gonna change, just as soon as I become an adult and get some power of my own.
Vintage art, that is. I found a print titled "In the Garden of Dreams" by C.K. Van Nortwick. The original was painted about 1929. The genre is the very similiar to art painted by Maxfield Parrish, whose art I love. Unfortunately, I can't find a good pic of the Nortwick piece to post here. posted by deborah

Why does the chorus to the new Allen Jackson song have to get stuck in my head?
Poor me something tall and strong Make it a Hurricane so I can go insane, It only half-past twelve, But I don't care, It's five-o'clock somewhere.
Actually the second line is "...before I go insane," but I think drinking to forget your troubles can lead to the insanity of alcoholism. Been there, done that, as they say. Anyway, that's the way I sing it.
1. What housekeeping chore(s) do you hate doing the most? I suppose if I can't say, "All of them," I'll have to say doing the dishes has a very low priority on my list of things to do. The proof of that is the stack that is in the kitchen right now.
2. Are there any that you like or don't mind doing? I don't mind doing the laundry except when the children bring down clean clothes to wash because instead of putting them away they stuff them under the bed then when they are told to clean the room they are still to lazy to put the durn things away and they bring them down to the hamper. I do sound off about it, but it seem to leave no lasting impression. 3. Do you have a routine throughout the week or just clean as it's needed? Routine, what's that. I usually do a bit of cleaning when the dust is thick enough to write my name and the names of my entire household in it.
4. Do you have any odd cleaning/housekeeping quirks or rules? I don't think so. Would I know if it were odd? Odd compared to what?
5. What was the last thing you cleaned? Them monitor screen to my computer.
